Miss Vixen (No.7) & My Biddy (No.8)

Racing in Melbourne comes from Caulfield this Saturday. The preview is going to be a little bit more condensed today just given time constraints as there has been a bit happening over the last few days. The rail moves back to the position after being well out at the past couple of meetings so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a bit of an advantage to those horses up on speed. I am kicking off in the first race which is for the mares over the 1100m. Grey Shadow is potentially still a mare we are yet to see the best of and I am happy to be with her here first up for the Maher stable. Her recent trial at Cranbourne was sharp and I think this is a winnable race for her. All Over Bosanova looks the main danger. She has fitness on her side and her recent New South Wales form is good. From a low draw she probably jumps on the bunny and is hard to run down so I want to keep her on side.

Betting strategy

I will have $55 the win on Grey Shadow here and save with $35 the win on All Over Bosanova!

Dangers

Wetakemanhattan (No.2)

This race is over the 2000m and again I am looking at a couple of horses that have a bit of scope and are on the rise. Grinzinger Star looks to have come back from a spell in really good form. He ran well first up at Sandown off a couple of nice trials/jump outs and then came to Caulfield last start and knocked off the hot favourite in Mr Quickie. He just looks to be going really well and is still very much on the way up within this campaign coming into the race third up. He draws to get a gun run not too far off the speed and should prove hard to beat. Ryan’s Fender seems to be enjoying his races being spaced this time in and is another that still looks to be on the way up. He got the job done first up at The Bool before going to Moonee Valley last start and winning comfortably. He is a horse that likes to get up and rolling on the speed and get his rivals off the bit and chasing. He is doing it effectively at the moment and I think he can make the step up to Saturday city grade here so happy to be in his corner.

Betting strategy

I will have $45 the win on both Grinzinger Star and Ryan's Fender here!

More Than Exceed (No.2) & High Ratio (No.4)

Dangers

Poised To Strike (No.1) & Morrissy (No.8)

This is a tricky race this. There are a few different form lines coming together. More Than Exceed met at Sandown recently with More Than Exceed getting the chocolates on that occasion and High Ratio has since come out and won. I think those two gallopers are going to be hard to beat here and happy to go that way. More Than Exceed raced well in the spring perhaps without the best of luck on occasions when taking on some handy horses. He led all the way to win when resuming and was only first up there so I think there is probably still a little bit more to come from him and from a good draw here should jump on speed again and be in the firing line for most of the way so happy to be with him. High Ratio is a horse that had a boom on him early doors but probably lost his way for a little while. He looks as if he may have found it again. His last two runs have been good running second to More Than Exceed and he then landed good bets to win last start. I just feel that he might be on the right track now and on the verge of stringing together some really strong performances. There is obviously plenty of talent there given the lofty ambitions set for him in his two year old season when well spruiked. Perhaps we are starting to see that come to fruition. Happy to be with him here.

Betting strategy

I will have $35 the win on More Than Exceed and High Ratio here!

Dangers

Tropezina (No.4) & Golden Halo (No.9)

This is a good race here. There are some handy fillies going around highlighted by the return of the horse up the top of the page in Thrillster. This is a very nice filly. She boats a win over Humma Mumma in the spring and was competitive around the likes of Sunlight, Smart Melody and Amphitrite. Put simply she is a very good filly that has bypassed some of the tougher autumn races and kicks off her campaign here. She looks ready to go. She was given a pretty searching hit out last week in a Flemington jump out where she went well and was asked to do a bit. She draws wide here which is a slight negative but on exposed form she clearly represents the class in the race and over the 1100m they only really have to get around one bend here so happy to be with her. The interesting runner is certainly the Mike Moroney trained Tofane. Gee, this horse looked impressive winning at Ballarat last start. She was a short priced odds on favourite but she won very easily and there was a big gap to the third horse as well which is often a good sign. She just looks a very nice racehorse and from a good gate with Ollie on board here I am happy to be in her corner. She looks like she is capable of making the step up to Saturday city class.

Betting strategy

I will have $45 the win on Tofane here and $30 the win on Thrillster!

Dangers

Streets Of Avalon (No.3) & Sircconi (No.4)

This is a small field but a handy race here over the 1400m. It looks a nice race for Manolo Blahniq. I certainly think the small field here plays right into his hands. He should be able to take up a position not too far off the speed from gate four and there should be some decent pressure up front with Streets Of Avalon and Sircconi engaged. That should allow him to stalk them from a close enough position in running and be able to finish off over the top of his rivals. He looks hard to beat and keen to be with him. Zebulon is starting to test the patience but he comes through all the right strong form references in his recent runs. I reckon that Bendigo run proved he probably just doesn’t run out a strong mile. For that reason I like him coming back to the 1400m here. He is another that will probably appreciate racing in a smaller field here after taking on some bigger fields in recent times. He should be able to settle closer from gate two and stalk the leaders and if the breaks come his way he should be hard to hold out so happy to be with him.

Betting strategy

I will have $65 the win on Manolo Blahniq here and save with $30 the win on Zebulon!

Superhard (No.5)

This is a good race to finish the day on here. It is over 1200m for the sprinters and it has drawn together a very good field. I am sticking with a couple of the resuming runners in Addictive Nature and Hauntedwho ironically come through the same Werribee jump out a couple of weeks ago. Both looked to go really well in that trial. Addictive Nature is a horse that had a fairly big boom on him early on up in Sydney and then found his way down to the stables of D K Weir. He had one run last spring for that stable when unlucky here behind Brave Song. He is now with Danny O’Brien and his trial and jump out suggest he is going quite well for this first up return. He draws well for Craig Williams, looks well in at the weights on the minimum and should be hard to beat. Happy to be with him. Haunted is a horse that really went through his grades nicely in the spring and if he can improve again into this campaign then he is going to be a pretty nice horse come the end of it. He closed off really stylishly I thought in that jump out recently and he looks a horse that might be very much on the way up. He draws a middle gate to sit just off the speed and I would expect him to hit the line strongly late over the 1200m. Happy to be with him in what looks a pretty good two bet play to finish a good day of racing.

Betting strategy

I will have $40 the win on both Haunted and Addictive Nature here!

Addictive Nature (No.3) & Haunted (No.8)

Dangers

All Over Bosanova (No.1) & Grey Shadow (No.3)

Dangers

Ryan’s Fender (No.5) & Grinzinger Star (No.12)

Thrillster (No.1) & Tofane (No.14)
