Full Of Spirit (No.9)

A massive showcase meeting comes from Coffs Harbour on this Friday afternoon punters and as you all know; I love a punt at Coffs! This is a really deep program too and I am keen to bet into it. The weather in God’s Country is superb with the track good and the rail in the true position so I fancy we will see horses up near the speed certainly not disadvantaged. The track has been playing really fair though for a while now and would expect that to continue here today. I am kicking off the day in the first race which is a maiden over the 800m. This is an interesting race though in terms of a few first starters that have trialled well. At the price I was quite keen to back this two year old filly in Hiroko. She trialled well here against the older horses back in February and looked to have a fair degree of talent. I think if she can sit close enough to them in the run she should be right in the finish and happy to be with her. A Bute Scott also trialled well here back in January when he won a trial very easily after showing good gate speed. He looked a real professional that day and got the job done nicely. This isn’t an overly strong maiden so I wouldn’t think either of these two would need to be superstars to be winning. Happy to be with them and will also save on Tallis who has shown good speed at his first two starts and the 800m dash should suit him. Backing those three hoping to get the favourite in Full Of Spirit rolled who has had a few chances.

Betting strategy

I will have $30 the win on Hiroko and A Bute Scott here and $20 the win on Tallis!

Dangers

Wots Wong (No.6) & Hellenism (No.9)

This is a maiden over the 1200m and I am not getting too adventurous here. I am pretty keen to side with the favourite in Celebrita’s Choice who improved significantly off her debut run last start at Newcastle when chasing home a potential smart one in Aim For Perfection. She got back along the inside there and worked through the line nicely after having to come across heels halfway down the straight. The only question mark is she might be looking for a bit further now but if she has improved again off that last run then I think she will prove hard to beat here. Happy to be with her. I am saving on a couple of others at double figure odds. Dawn Thunder ran well at Port Macquarie last start when leading the field up and only just being run down late. She went along at a good clip there and I fancy this Coffs track might be a bit more forgiving to those up on speed so back on her home track I think she can run well around the $15 mark. Also keeping Savanna Jeune on side just in case. This mare showed enough talent in her debut campaign last winter. She is resuming off a decent break here but draws well and if has improved in that break can be competitive here, so I think she should be kept on side. The interesting runner is Hellenism who trialled for another stable at Moree back in March and looked as green as grass. Now is with the local Dodson camp and debuts here and the early money suggests she will run well. This is a competitive maiden.

Betting strategy

I will have $70 the win on Celebrita's Choice here and save with $15 the win on Savanna Jeune and $10 the win on Dawn Thunder!

Dangers

Fairlighting (No.2), I’ll Miss You (No.3) & Proud Captain (No.7)

This race is over the 2000m for the stayers. There are a few well exposed types here and for that reason the two favourites in Balmaceda and Proud Captain certainly appeal as the two horses who look to be still on the way up. I was going to back both and save on a roughy that I was keen on but given that roughy has now come in for good support I can probably only back one of them so I am siding with Balmaceda. This horse is covering some territory this time in. He resumed with a good second at Wellington before a good second at Muswellbrook. He then stepped up to a Benchmark 70 and ran well at Newcastle before heading down to Wagga last start where he won easily. He looks to push forward and roll along on speed and with that in mind he should prove hard to run down here so happy to be with him. Purrfect Trick is the roughy I like but clearly a few others have identified it. When I was up at 6am doing the form this morning this bloke was around $16 and he is now lucky to be double figures anywhere. He is racing well and just gets in really well at the weights here. The question mark is can he run out a strong 2000m? He has had eight goes at the trip and never won. He meets one of his rivals here in I’ll Miss You seven kilos better for a narrow defeat at Grafton in April and that was over 2230m so you would expect the trip is no issue and with just 51.5kgs on his back he should run well so happy to have him on side.

Betting strategy

I will have $55 the win on Balmaceda and $15 the win on Purrfect Trick!

Dangers

Nobody’s Perfect (No.4) & Flying Pretty (No.15)

I thought this race had a pretty long tail over the mile. I didn’t think there were a massive amount of winning chances. China Plate from the low level flying Michael Costa stable makes his way down from the Gold Coast off the back of two good runs this time in. Both of those runs have been over the 1300m distance and he has worked through the line strongly. He gives every impression that he is looking for this 1600m trip, he draws a nice middle gate for Ryan Plumb and from there I think he should be hard to hold out so happy to be with him. Privately Epic is/was the value runner in the race. This horse was double figures earlier this morning but has been the subject of good support prior to 9am and is now in as low as $8. I am not surprised as his two runs back have been really good over the 1500m. The extra trip and the big Coffs track will suit him and he was arguably a bit stiff not to win last start. Third up he should be primed to deliver a peak performance and keen to have him on side.

I will have $65 the win on China Plate and $20 the win on Privately Epic!

Dangers

Gold Rhapsody (No.8) & Lady Clare (No.9)

This race is over the 1000m here. I am of the opinion that if the favourite in See It Thru rocks up then he is going to be pretty hard to beat. He was formerly in Mick Kent’s stable in Melbourne and won on debut in comfortable fashion at Sale as an odds on favourite. That was well over twelve months ago and he has trialled particularly well at Grafton in the lead up to this first up run. The fact he was odds on at debut suggests he has a fair bit of ability and won’t have too many issues measuring up in this part of the world if all is right with him. The trial suggested he is going well, he draws well and he looks hard to beat. Keen to be with him. Lunar Tramp is first up for the local Dodson yard and showed good ability in her first campaign so I am keeping her on side here first up at odds. The mad bet in the race is Secrets No More. She doesn’t win out of turn but is locally trained and her run behind Gold Rhapsody at Port Macquarie last start was good. Gold Rhapsody is $4.80 in this race and Secrets No More is $51 so I know who I would rather be on.

Betting strategy

I will have $70 the win on See It Thru here and save with $10 the win on Lunar Trump and $5 each way on Secrets No More at the $51/$14 with SportsBet!

Deubank (No.9), Northern Wilderose (No.13) & Private Edition (No.14)

Dangers

In Ya Skyrocket (No.7) & Apache Belle (No.11)

This is a wide open race and playing accordingly. I thought Deubank had been pretty good in his two runs back from a spell and should be ready to fire here at his third run back stepping up to the 1300m. He has gone through the line well in both starts this time in over 1000m so the extra trip here looks ideal. He draws a nice gate to land just behind the speed for Anthony Allen and I would expect him to be in the finish so happy to be with him. The other horse I am most keen on is Private Edition. This filly has made her way up from Victoria this campaign and been good in two runs to kick her life up north off. She charged through the line first up at Grafton before going on from that to win impressively last start. This looks an ideal race for her and the step up to 1300m should suit her as well. She looks to have a bit of upside and providing she can go on from those first two runs she will be hard to beat here. Northern Wilderose is the other one I will keep on side in the race. She is also lightly raced with just the two starts under her belt. She won well on debut before chasing home a smart one at Grafton last start. I think Spokes will be pretty positive on her from that wide draw in a race that doesn’t look to have a lot of speed so she might prove hard to run down.

I will have $30 the win on Private Edition, $25 the win on Deubank and $20 the win on Northern Wilderose!

Dangers

Bangalley Lad (No.4) & I’ll Take Money (No.13)

There has been a few scratchings here in this race to finish the day on. The smart horse that I mentioned Northern Wilderose chased home last start lobs here in Medicine Ball. He is another that has made his way up from Victoria to the Grafton stables of John Shelton and seems to be enjoying life up on the Northern Rivers. He has won both his starts up this way on his home track and landed some good bets in the process. Both wins have come over the 1400m which he stays at here. He draws wide but he is a free rolling up on speed horse so I am hoping that can be negated and if that is the case he is going to prove hard too run down. Happy to be with him again. This is a test for him though so I am certainly happy to keep Acoustix on side. This three year old resumed from a spell with a strong win at Tamworth and might be in for a bit of a break out campaign. His form last campaign was good in this region and his second up runs typically match his first up runs so I wouldn’t expect him to go backwards from that first up win. He draws well which will assist in him running out the 1400m which is a bit of question mark but if he can do that which shouldn’t be a problem for mine given what I have seen of him then he should be right in the finish. Rispetta always runs well here on her home track and you can’t let the last race combo of Bellamy and Spokes go around without having something on, so she is a small bet at big odds just in case.

Betting strategy

I will have $45 the win on Medicine Ball, $25 the win on Acoustix and $10 the win on Rispetta!
